J. JOSEPH FANSKA, MA, LPC
Joseph is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Missouri with more than 10 years of experience in mental health and social services. He received a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Missouri in 2005 and a master’s in counseling and guidance from the University of Missouri in 2008. While working toward his first degree at MU, Joseph also served as the president of the Psi Chi International Honor Society in psychology. Joseph has had a lengthy tenure providing mental health treatment for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in a local acute-care psychiatric hospital since 2009. He previously managed a treatment-based day program for over three years and worked with children and adolescents struggling with autism spectrum disorders and behavioral issues. He has many years’ experience advocating for teenagers and young adults in other settings, as well, including an emergency shelter for youth, an outpatient substance abuse clinic, and a community mental health center. He also volunteered as a regional crisis hotline worker and as a research assistant studying emotional development in children. Joseph joined the Lilac Center in 2017 where he practices dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for individuals and co-facilitates DBT groups. Joseph is also part of a weekly DBT consultation team with his colleagues. He specializes in helping teenagers and young adults through many challenges including depression, anxiety, anger, poor self-esteem, sleep-related issues, sexuality, and behavioral modification. He also enjoys teaching other life skills and self-care. Joseph was born and raised in the Northland. He is a proud Eagle Scout and enjoys the outdoors, travel, and spending time with family and friends.
